Beginning our Plan-choosing a song

For my final and main production for A2 Media, me and my group that contained Sam, Shane and Luke decided that we would create a music video, but it wasn't as easy as just picking a song that we all liked and getting straight to making the video, this seeing as it was our final production would require a massive amount of planning.

First off we needed to do some research into a wide range of music video's whilst also keeping Andrew Goodwin's theories about music videos in our minds that i have previously made a prezzi about http://prezi.com/ctjuhk6lyhkt/. I learned that there are a few different types of music video that we could go for: there was music video's that relate directly to the lyrics of the song, Music video's that dont relate at all to the lyrics and just tell a different story or a music video that contains a live performance by a band. here are a few example of videos we watched.

Arctic Monkey's: leave before the lights come on-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEukS2YN9B8&ob=av2e

Reverend and the Makers: Heavyweight champion of the world- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JOEPYtCq7k

The Kaiser Chiefs: Ruby- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qObzgUfCl28&ob=av2e

After watching alot of example video's me and my group decided to make a mind map of potential songs we could use.

This Mind map is what we eventually ended up with after a whole lesson discussing it together, there was a varied set of artists that had decided upon but it seemed clear to me that they all from the kind of 'indie' genre, as you can see on the mind map above the song "leave before the lights come on" by Arctic Monkey's
was the song we decided upon.

This was a good song for us to pick because the lyrics of the song almost tell a story which makes it easy because the direction of our video was essentially decided for us. The original video for this song made by the band themselves doesn't seem to have any correlation or link to the lyrics, so this would leave us free to make our video relate to the lyrics without having to worry about copying the original video.

Seeing as the song choice was dealt with, next lesson we would have to start thinking about what our video actually was actually going to contain and maybe start thinking about producing a storyboarded plan.
